Msiexec not updating registry on winxp

In Office 2007/2010 there is a log file that gets created by default, but it does not give the amount of detail that is usually required to diagnose an installation failure. With verbose MSI logging enabled we will get a verbose log file for each component that Office 2007/2010 installs. In addition, it allows you to instantly open the Web link in Microsoft Web site that provides more information about the selected update, uninstall an update, copy the update information to the clipboard, or save it to text/HTML/XML file. This utility works on Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, and Windows XP.Unfortunately this proved harder that it should have been.Despite approving the update (KB943729) for installation via WSUS I found that it wasn’t being deployed to a large proportion of my systems – with WSUS reporting that the update was “not needed”.On Windows 98/ME, some columns are not displayed, because the related information is not stored in the Registry as in Windows 2000/XP.
